Saint John’s Youth Group
Saint
John’s Youth Group is made up of approximately 25 young men and women
from
fifth grade through twelfth. Under the guidance of the Youth Group
leader,
Frances Chamberlain, they gather on a regular basis for fellowship;
planning of
service projects; fellowship with other Youth Groups at Diocesan
events; etc.
During
the Summer
of 2003, a dozen members and three chaperones worked for a week in
Welsh, West
Virginia
refurbishing housing that was desperately in need of care and to which
the
owners were unable to tend. It was an astonishingly demanding time for
the
young people, and they were wonderful in their commitment to a most
difficult
task. This Summer, we had hoped to return, but the demands of the
organization
in West
Virginia
regarding minimum ages for participants made it necessary for
us to
change our plans to repeat the trip in the Summer of 2005.
In
the Autumn and early-Winter of 2003-2004, the Youth Group helped out
with
service projects at the homes of a number of parishioners. In the week
before
Christmas, they brought the spirit of that Feast to the homes of
shut-ins
through their energetic rendition of Christmas carols. Valentines and
Easter
cards were sent in a timely manner, and a number of fund raising
efforts (for
next year's trip) were undertaken.
In
2005, the Youth Group made another successful mission trip to Appalachia.
Pictures are available below. 2006 promises to be another productive
and
exciting adventure for these energetic young people.
