Parish Organizations
The following provides a relatively complete (though not exhaustive) listing of various Parish groups that serve the corporate life of Saint John’s. With the exception of the Vestry (which is elected), all groups are open to members of the Parish who feel they have gifts to offer in service in various areas of life at Saint John’s. To explore such possibilities, any interested person is urged to contact the Rector.
· Vestry – The Vestry is charged with oversight for the overall temporal life of the Parish as well as having direct responsibility for the financial affairs of Saint John’s. It is also a body that works closely with the Rector and provides him with advice and counsel on a regular and ongoing basis.

· Finance Committee – The Finance Committee is a sub-committee of the Vestry and serves in the oversight of the Parish’s financial affairs and preparation of each year’s preliminary budget. · Outreach Committee – The Outreach Committee meets five times a year. Its aim is to distribute the funds entrusted to its care wisely and well to assist those in need. It seeks to provide support to organizations of which members of the Committee have first-hand knowledge or involvement and to whose work the gifts of Saint John’s will make a significant difference. The Committee seeks first to offer assistance in the area in which we live and then in widening circles into the nation and the larger world. All interested persons are welcome at its meetings. · Altar Guild – The Altar Guild is responsible for the care of the vestments, hangings, and liturgical items essential to most of the services conducted at Saint John’s. Members set up for, and clean up from, most services during the course of the year, and, twice a year, undertake a thorough cleaning of all silver and brass as well as the woodwork in the Chancel. · Flower Committee – The Flower Committee oversees the ordering and arranging of Altar flowers for all services at Saint John’s as well as the decoration for the entire Church for Easter and Christmas. · Building and Grounds Committee – This Committee meets on an ad lib basis to consider extraordinary needs and projects involving Saint John’s physical properties. · Layreaders and Chalice Bearers – These individuals fill important roles during each week’s worship services assisting either with the reading of lessons or administration of the Chalice during Communion. · Acolytes – These young men and women support all liturgies at Saint John’s by carrying the Crosses used in procession and assisting the Celebrant with numerous aspects of the Celebration of the Eucharist. |
