Three separate religious organizations --St. John s Episcopal Church, The First Congregational Church of Washington, and The Greater Washington Coalition for Jewish Life -- are co-sponsoring an event to promote better understanding of world faiths. On Saturday, April 21, at 4 p.m. in the St. John's Parish House Dr. Homayra Ziad, a Muslim woman and scholar, will speak on Islam in America. There will be time for discussion and questions following her presentation. Her interests include Islam in America, Sufi theory and practice, theologies of pluralism, women s religious authority, and Qu ranic studies. Dr Ziad was born in Karachi, Pakistan, and grew up there and in Washington, D.C., Uganda and Turkey. She traveled widely, and then earned an economics degree from Bryn Mawr College, followed by a Doctorate in Islamic Studies from Yale.
