St. John s Episcopal Church is a vibrant, welcoming and diverse community of faith located in the heart of the Litchfield Hills that is actively engaged in a mission of outreach to its immediate community and the wider world.
Our call is to a mature living Christianity where Scripture, Reason, the Sacraments and apostolic Tradition make sense of our life and offer us a glimpse of the Holy.
We are progressive in our understanding of the Church s mission to bring Christ to all people, orthodox in our theology, traditional in our liturgy and catholic in our devotional practices.
St. John's mission as a member of the broader Church is not static. St. John s understands its mission to respond creatively and faithfully to the emerging and evolving needs of the Church, the wider Episcopal Church, and the community in which it lives.
Fundamentally, as an expression of its faith in the larger Episcopal Church, that means St. John s has an obligation:
To proclaim by word and example the good news of God in Christ with worship celebrated in the best tradition of Anglican liturgy , by offering a place of spiritual peace, challenge, and growth for both adults and children and by providing an educational grounding in the faith and spirituality of the Anglican church for adults and children;
To seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves by reach out with our hearts and hands and financial resources to those in need around us.; and
To strive for justice and peace among all people, and to respect the dignity of every human being.
As a Parish, with a charisma unique to its talents and place, St. John's seeks also to support music as a special ministry, recognizing it to be powerful force in praising God, and as a means of supporting and giving thanks to the community in which our life is nurtured.
